(WLUK) — If you see an increased emergency response presence next month , don’t worry, it’s just a drill.
A full-scale training exercise simulating a long-term mass power outage in Wisconsin will be held May 15-17 throughout the state.
The exercise, known as Dark Sky, will occur in Brown, Calumet, Dane, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Outagamie and Winnebago counties.
Dark Sky will test the abilities of private utilities, law enforcement, first responders and the National Guard to respond to the scenario.
“Dark Sky provides an incredible opportunity for our first responders, the National Guard, emergency management officials, and our private utilities industry partners to exercise our processes now so we are better prepared for threats to our power grid,” said Maj. Gen. Don Dunbar, Wisconsin’s adjutant general.
More than 1,000 emergency responders and members of federal agencies will participate in the exercise.
Alliant Energy facility in Fond du Lac county will serve as one of the National Guard training sites.
